Unveiling American History

Welcome to Historical Essays, a blog dedicated to exploring American history from a non-partisan and non-ideological perspective.

As I start this blog, I am 72 years old. So, I have lived through almost 30-percent of the nation's history. I don't look at my role in examining history as that of a lawyer or judge. To the extent that any occupational analogy can be applied to how I pursue my lifelong interest in history, then I suppose I am like the mall security rent-a-cop: my function is to observe and report.

While I am aware of the effects of ideologies and partisanship on the course of the United States, I long ago decided I did not want to identify with or adhere to any party or ideology. I long ago gave up or moved past any desire to have opinions or beliefs. If I want to know what to think about a subject, then for most public issues there is a world of factual information that can be accessed to find what is "right".

As a voter I have always been registered "Nonpartisan".

Some of the essays you'll find here have been previously published locally as guest editorials. Others are previously unpublished.

As of October 2025 this blog is very much in the early days of its existence. I will be working on it as time allows - adding new essays and Bibliography entries and hopefully new features. Thank you for your interest.
